Review by Ming-Zhu Hii. Ever wanted to own the world? Well now you can? The perfect cross between Monopoly and Trivial Pursuit, World Domination is on the fast-track to becoming a new family games collection staple! Need another incentive? World Domination is Australian owned, designed and distributed, the inventor being Chris Crouch, founder of Australia's Candle Records. This game is particularly fun for large groups (although it can be played with as few as two people), and also works very nicely when two or more people form teams and act as one player. This means a lot of lively conferring takes place (much like pub trivia!).
In a nutshell, you're answering a whole range of different questions (based on general knowledge of the world and its geographic, political and anthropological history), in order to be awarded enough money (World Dollars) to buy different regions on the board. These regions are Australasia, Asia, Africa, Europe, and North and South America. Much like Monopoly, once you have bought a region, you start to earn funds from other players as they pay you a tax for guessing questions incorrectly.
It's every player for themselves in the game of World Domination, and if you're as much of a fact and trivia fiend as I, then you'll love the dog-eat-dog, rack-your-brains-at-all-costs nature of this game. There are a couple of sneaky surprises in the Customs Cards and Free Trip squares, and amongst the questions, there's also a General Knowledge category, which throws delicious and sometimes irreverent curve-balls.
But all in all, the secret to World Domination?
Brush up on your High School history, geography, and a bit of TV trivia, or you may just find your sixteen year-old step-sister gloating as you hand her over yet another fistful of World Dollars. World Domination. A great night in. With the world at your fingertips.
